Troffer, or trayed, lights, are used most often in commercial buildings. They can provide a lot of light with the way they are designed and the way that they function. An LED troffer light is even better because it works with LED bulbs that shine brighter than any other bulb. In fact, the use of troffer lights and LED troffer lights can maximize lighting in otherwise dark places. Here is how, and why, these lights are used in your office building.

A Look at Natural Light

In your office building, how much natural light comes in through the windows? How far does that light reach? If you are working in a building where the only natural light coming in is coming into the windows in the corner offices of the building, it means that there is no other natural light coming into the rest of the office space.

Even with windows all the way around the building, the natural light can only reach inward about four to eight feet, depending on the angle of the sunbeams at any given time of the day. That means that there is not enough light to reach into the centermost parts of the building. On a cloudy or stormy day, natural light does not exist, and it makes the office spaces impossible for people to work. This is where LED bulbs and troffer lights come into play.

The Design of Troffer Lights

Troffer lights have dozens of built-in reflective surfaces. These surfaces bounce light off in all directions, throwing light into all areas of the room. The more troffer lights you have in a ceiling, the more light is bounced off of its bulbs and reflected everywhere, even into dark corners. When LED bulbs are used, the brilliance of the reflected light becomes as bright as natural sunlight.

Why These Lights Are Preferred to All Others

Sure, your office building could have desk lamps and old-school overhead lamps for each cubicle, but those kinds of lights really are not practical. They also do not give off the same amount of light as troffer lights do. Additionally, it is very easy just to construct a commercial office building like this one and install troffer lights as part of the construction. Then the building is ready for "move in, begin operations immediately" condition. All of the wiring is already there, and the lights are just an easy extra.
